Wilding Whitlam: The Brindabellas grouping. 2024. 120 x 33 x 38 cm. Local Whitlam clay, terracotta clay, slips, ash, underglazes. oxides.
Wilding Whitlam and the Brindabellas formed the graduating show from a Masters of Contemporary Art Practices at the Australian National University School of Art and Design in 2023.
The work explored new places through deep time materials, focusing on the developing suburb of Whitlam on the edge of Canberra. The work was made using local Whitlam clays, casting replicas of houses available in the suburb. The work responds to notions of care and connection that arise when new places are explored through a temporal, spacial and sensory engagement.
